umberland
Development Corporation Limited was established in 1985 by a
community group of individuals interested
in the further economic development of Cumberland County by
assisting small business startups and expansions.
With the assistance
of the Community Futures Program then managed by HRDC and now
ACOA developed a Board of Directors from this group of community
leaders and has never looked back. Members of the Board of Directors
include: Sherman Beal(Chair), Doug Marshall(Past Chair), David
Blair(Vice Chair), Karla Mundle(Treasurer), Ron Langille, Donald
Jewers, Sherry Camron-Calder, Victor Bayart and Karla Milton.
Executive Director Randy Smith acts as secretary for the board.
Now in its
21st year of operation, Cumberland Development Corporation
has a proud history of significantly impacting the economy
of Cumberland County since its inception. It has successfully
met the challenges of creating and sustaining jobs in a county
that is so diverse in geography that small business entrepreneurs
have unlimited opportunities in many sectors of the economy.
Light manufacturing, farming, fishing, aquiculture, construction,
retail, tourism, silva-culture, and the service sector have
all been impacted by CDC.
Cumberland
Development Corporation serves a large geographic area in
the County. From Advocate to Malagash, from Moose River to
Tidnish and from the Bay of Fundy to the Northumberland Strait.
The population of the county is about 33,000 with the major
centers being Amherst(9,473), Springhill(4,091), Parrsboro(1,529),
Oxford(1,332), and Pugwash(600).
Cumberland
Development Corporation is located in the Cumberland Economic
Resource Centre in Amherst, Nova Scotia. We share the building

satellite offices in the building.
